I'm astonished at the number of folks who come up to me after a gig,
look at my dulcimer and say, "I've got one of those around the house,
but don't know what to do with it." "Play it," I say!
So, after many years of hearing this, along with a prod or two from friends,
I'm offering dulcimer lessons.
Appalachian (Mountain or fretted) dulcimer is really easy to make music
with. All you need to know is the tunings and some basic strums and you're
off with the best of the folkies. I also teach how to chord, which is
not often done with dulcimer, and will share my experience with you so
you can jam with other instruments.

DJ Hamouris & Buffalo "The DulciMates" will be participating in the annual
"Miracles" celebration at Chapel of the Chimes. We will be playing our
dulcimers and singing traditional, contemporary and seasonal folk tunes.
In addition there will be Santa Claus, hot chocolate, tea and sweets.
Candles will be lit in the Columbarium at 4 pm. CDs will be available for
purchase.
Miracles at the Chimes: 3 weekends of holiday
celebrations
Dec. 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, 3-5pm
"Miracles" is the theme for the whole
month of December. Come wander amidst sparkle and green boughs, place a
"Memory Ornament" on the 15-foot decorated tree, visit during the daily
candle lighting hours 3:00 to 5:00.

All dulcimer classes are held at an Oakland location, near Ashby BART
(directions upon registration).
Private Lessons
Contact me if you're interested in joining a
class or scheduling private lessons ($50/hr). I'd be up for working with
you and a friend, too, so you can share the cost.

About the Teacher
I've been playing dulcimer for 25 years and teaching
music for longer than that. I bought my first dulcimer at the Southern
California Renaissance Faire and have used it for accompanying myself and other
singers, as well as composing songs. My most recent recording with this
instrument is Moonrise: Songs of Love, Magic and Other Mysteries.
I teach music lessons every day and perform with
Moonrise
(a folk trio) as well as a jazz trio.
